UN Tourism is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. As the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide. UNWTO encourages the implementation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, to maximize tourism’s socio-economic contribution while minimizing its possible negative impacts, and is committed to promoting tourism as an instrument in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), geared towards reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development. UNWTO generates market knowledge, promotes competitive and sustainable tourism policies and instruments, fosters tourism education and training, and works to make tourism an effective tool for development through technical assistance projects in over 100 countries around the world.

  • 🌍 In 2024, international tourism recovered its pre-pandemic values, reaching 1.5 billion international travelers. Over six times this number are estimated to travel domestically within their own countries. The sector: ✅ Creates millions of jobs ✅ Generates export value, reaching up to 6% of all global exports ✅ Represents US$ 3.4 trillion in global GDP Yet, ensuring that tourism’s positive socio-economic impact translates into inclusion, sustainability, and resilience requires targeted policies and planning. UN Tourism is embarking on a deep dive into the policy enablers that can lead this transformation. 🔹 People – Planet – Prosperity – Governance We are inviting all countries around the globe to take this self-assessment and be part of the change.

  • ONU Turismo celebra un hito para el Derecho del Turismo en América Latina y el Caribe El pasado 15 y 16 de julio, en Punta Cana (República Dominicana), celebramos el Primer Congreso Regional del Observatorio del Derecho del Turismo para América Latina y el Caribe, bajo el lema “Perspectivas legales hacia un turismo sostenible”. Organizado junto al Grupo Puntacana, Quiroz Advisors – QA Legal y con el apoyo del Ministerio de Turismo de la República Dominicana, el Congreso reunió a representantes gubernamentales, profesionales del derecho, organismos internacionales y líderes del sector turístico público y privado. Durante dos días, analizamos los principales desafíos jurídicos que enfrenta el turismo en la región: sostenibilidad, gobernanza, planificación territorial, alquiler turístico de corta duración, turismo accesible e inversiones verdes. Todo ello con un objetivo claro: impulsar marcos normativos más sólidos, inclusivos y orientados al desarrollo sostenible del turismo. Uno de los momentos clave fue el grupo de trabajo sobre Gobernanza y Ordenamiento Territorial, donde Estados miembros formularon recomendaciones legales que servirán como base para futuras guías de buenas prácticas y acciones del Observatorio ALC. Además, desarrollamos una capacitación especializada en turismo accesible para el sector privado y una post-conferencia junto al CAF y el BID, centrada en el rol de las inversiones verdes en la transformación del turismo.   • The 2nd UN Tourism and International Civil Aviation Organization Ministerial Conference on Tourism and Air Transport in Africa just kicked off today in Luanda. Over the next three days, ministers, aviation leaders, and tourism stakeholders will come together to strengthen collaboration, boost connectivity, and unlock Africa’s full potential. Hosted by the Government of Angola, the conference sets the stage for a more integrated and prosperous future for African tourism and air transport.
